N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-type glutamate receptors (NMDAR) are ionotropic receptors activated by glutamate. NMDAR activation allows Ca2+ influx leading to NMDAR-dependant LTP and LTD. NMDA receptors contribute to dendritic structure and thus, can have impact on neuronal firing.
